Full Dip Sprayable 4 Litre Application
Please read all information carefully before using Full Dip and get excellent results when spraying aerosol cans or 4 litre tins with electric turbine and compressor fed guns.
PREPARATIONS
CLEANING OF SURFACES
Before application, the surface must be clean, free of grease and dry. Pay special attention to edges and gaps. To clean and degrease the surface, use our the Full Dip® Predip cleaning concentrate (dilute as per instructions before use). Alternatively, isopropyl alcohol diluted with 50% distilled water by total amount can be used. Then let the surface evaporate sufficiently (about 20-30 minutes at room temperature). If residues from the cleaning agent are still present on the surface or the flash-off time is not adhered to, this can lead to tiny dot formations or fish eyes on the surface after spraying full dip. You can also use mild soap detergent, then rinse and dry well.
NOTE! Please do not use other products such as silicone or wax remover, The use of these agents may cause problems with full dip such as solidifying the liquid rubber, longer drying times, Soak in to the dip causing it to peel off immediately under mechanical stress.
Cover and Protect before Spraying
All non-coated components should be covered or masked without exception. These include brake systems, engine compartment, electronics, vehicle interior, tires.
NOTE! Avoid contact with headlamps, electronics and brake systems. Please also note that some plastic surfaces and headlamps can be sensitive to solvent-based products such as FullDip®. Before use, test any surfaces for compatibility in an invisible location.
Full Dip will bond to almost any surface you spray it on, if the surface is not absolutely clean and dry, you will get imperfections and faults.
So it is important you clean & dry properly, Cleaned perfectly and you will get a uniform smooth finish that will last for years.
APPLICATION OF FULL DIP®
BASE COLOURS | METALLIC COLOURS
Full Dip® base and metallic paints can usually be applied without previous priming. However, in the case of the colours red, yellow, orange and pink, we recommend that you first spray full dip white or grey base colour as a primer. Especially if spraying over a very strong dark colour then this is recommended. The colour of the primer should be chosen depending on the luminosity / brightness of the desired final result (ex .: bright yellow = white primer).
NEON FLUORESCENT | THERMOCHROMIC | “GLOW IN THE DARK”
NOTE! For NEON colours, a white background colour must be sprayed. Only then is the maximum luminosity of the NEON colours achieved. For thermochrome colours and “Glow in the Dark” effect, we also recommend spraying full dip white as a primer.
PEARL | CANDY PEARL | DIAMOND PEARL | CHAMELEON EFFECT
NOTE! With these semi-transparent effect colours you need to spray a base coat . The base coat should be a minimum of 3 coats and the colour is either black or white full dip. This depends on pearl or chameleon colour top coats. If the required base colour is black and the surface has already black paint, you still must put full dip black over it for the pearl colour to work.
TEMPERATURE & VISCOSITY
The recommended spraying / drying temperature is between 15 and 24 degrees Celsius. Temperatures above the processing temperature, direct sunlight and excessively high working pressure of the gun should be avoided, as the contained solvent can evaporate directly on exiting the nozzle. The result is a very rough surface. When working at higher temperatures, Full Dip® liquid rubber can be thinned up to 10% of the total for higher temperatures or humidity . At lower temperatures, you can warm the containers to room temperature in warm water. ATTENTION! Containers are under pressure do not apply high heat.
RECOMMENDED SPRAY SYSTEMS, NOZZLE SIZE & WORK PRESSURE
Full Dip® 4 litre containers can be used with a compressed air or electric HVLP spraying system (eg FullDip® FD650 or Earlex MS 3000). Recommended nozzle size: 1.8mm – 2.0mm
The 4 litre tins have been thinned and are ready to pour into your spray gun, just make sure you have stirred paint when you open tin first.
High temperature / humidity you can add up to 10 % more thinners if having humidity problems when spraying, just use high quality xylene thinners.
The working pressure for compressor fed spray guns should be set as low as possible. Recommended working pressure from a compressor feed is approx. 1.5 bar / 22 psi from gun.
Spray Technique Aerosols
Shake the can for about 2 minutes before use.
Fist coat should be a light tack (dusting ) coat and allow drying between each coat from 10 to 25 minutes, it all depends on how warm the area is.
Spray in parallel paths evenly spaced from the surface. For full saturation, the paint should always overlap by 50% on each pass.
Do not spray in direct sun light or force dry with hot air gun.
apply a minimum of 4 or 5 coats for wheels, mirrors, grills , stripes and small projects and 7 coats for a complete car or motorbike
For spray cans, keep them as straight as possible and always in a vertical position. Due to their design, spray cans are not suitable for spraying overhead or in horizontal bearings to the surface.
After application, turn the spray can upside down and press the spray head until no more material comes out of the nozzle. This is to clean the nozzle for later reuse if required.
Reminder! Allow the material to dry between layers for about 15-30 minutes. The drying time varies depending on the ambient temperature, the number of layers applied and the layer thickness.
APPLICATION
When you have read all the previous information and made the appropriate preparations, you can start with the actual application of Full Dip. Wear appropriate protective clothing such as a respirator, protective goggles and paint suit during spraying. Always ensure sufficient ventilation of the work area during application.
4 LITRE TINS
Open the container and stir it with a drill and whisk attachment for approx. 2 minutes. Then fill up your spray system. Use paint filters (190 micron) to filter any foreign particles from the material.
Now spray 1-2 thin layers (if necessary, reduce the throughput of the spray system). This serves as a primer for the subsequent layers and on the other hand it helps you to get a feel for the handling of the material and the spray system.
After drying the thin layer (about 10-15 minutes) you can spray the Full Dip with wet coats. If necessary, increase the flow rate of your spray system or adjust the operating speed accordingly to apply full wetting and a rich film to the surface.
Spray at least 5-7 film-forming layers for a durable coating. If you spray a base colour for the subsequent application of a pearl / chameleon colour, we recommend to spray 2-3 completely wet layers of the primary colours. The required minimum number of 5-7 layers is achieved with 2-3 additional layers of the desired chameleon / pearl colour.
NOTE! Allow the material to dry between layers for about 15-30 minutes. The drying time varies depending on the ambient temperature, the number of layers applied and the layer thickness. Clean the spray gun system every 2-3 refills with good thinners If you are using an electric spray system and make sure that the air filter is clean and dry before you start spraying.
Masking Tape
NOTE! Remove any adhesive tape on the coated surface (in the case of topcoats, overlying rubber seals, etc.) immediately after application of the last coat. Otherwise, a ripping of the edges and damage to the coating after the Full Dip® has dried will happen.
After about 12 hours, the coating has dried so far that you can handle it with care. The complete mechanical load capacity is reached after approx. 48 hours. The drying time varies depending on the ambient temperature, the number of layers applied and the layer thickness.
CLEANING & CARE
After Full Dip® liquid rubber has completely dried you can seal the surface with Full Dip® Dip coat (blue ) for matte or dip coat (pink )for glossifier glossy finish. This improves the feel, reduces dirt build-up and contributes to a longer shelf life of the coating. To do this, spray a light mist film on the surface to be treated and then polish with a soft cloth without pressure until no oily film is left. Repeat the dip coat application after each wash for excellent results and easier to clean every time.
For easy and effective cleaning, you can use the Dip-Shampoo, which was specially developed by Full Dip®. For coated rims we recommend FullCarX® wheel cleaner. The use of other pH neutral rim cleaner is possible.
After two weeks of complete drying a car wash machine is also possible.
TOPCOATS
FULL DIP® TOPCOAT PRODUCTS
Full Dip® Top Coat PRO ( High Gloss Top Coat ) is a professional applied product and may only be used on at least 7 layers of Full Dip® liquid rubber. Let Full Dip® liquid rubber dry for 12 hours before applying Topcoat PRO to it. The topcoat should only be applied to 7 layers of Full Dip® liquid rubber if you want to be able to peel dip later! Therefore, pay attention to special care during preparation and masking. For “best” results, Full Dip® Topcoat High Gloss Pro should only be used by professional users in a professional work environment (paint booth, compressed air spray system). Recommended nozzle size: 1.4mm. Working pressure from gun approx. 2 bar. Processing with an electrical spraying system is possible but you will get texture and the formation of orange peel.
Mixing ratio: 1 part hardener, 2 parts top coat 7.5% thinner (enclosed)
The topcoat is usually processed in two coats in high gloss or matte finish.
Spray a thin layer of mist and let it dry for about 5 minutes (at 20 degrees Celsius).
Spray a wet film-forming, overlapping layer.
After the last coat, immediately remove any masking tape applied to the surface and allow the topcoat to dry for about 24 hours.
